Why Donate to the Eugene N. Myers, MD Global Education Fund?
Our international colleagues working in low-income countries need our help!
From limited or no access to specialized training institutions and constrained access to medical supplies and equipment, many physicians working in low-income countries encounter enormous challenges, including the ability to access essential continuing education and professional development opportunities and resources. For many of these physicians, traveling to attend a meeting or paying for online education without financial assistance is not an option. Affordability is a major issue—a recent survey found the average monthly income of an otolaryngologist working in low- and middle-income countries to be less than $1,500 USD a month ($18,000 annually).
How Will Your Donation Be Used?
One hundred percent of your contribution to the Eugene N. Myers, MD Global Education Fund will go toward providing continuing education programs to physicians practicing in low-income countries.
The program will open to applicants in 2024, including:
- Grants to attend the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting
- International Visiting Scholarship Program grants, which offer the opportunity to complete an observership at a U.S. medical institution
- Grants for online education resources such as FLEX and OTO Logic
Our goal is to help those physicians who need it the most, and in return they will be able to share the knowledge attained from the Eugene N. Myers, MD, Global Education Fund to improve patient care in their home country.
Criteria and Award Requirements
Grants will be available to physicians who are employed full-time in otolaryngology, have citizenship, and practice in a low-income country. Awardees will be required to utilize and share the knowledge attained from the Eugene N. Myers, MD, Global Education Fund to improve patient care in their home country.

Dr. Myers, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Otolaryngology and Emeritus Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, is a Past President of AAO-HNS/F and the founder of the AAO-HNSF International Affairs Program, which he helped launch in 1996. Committed to providing education and services for international otolaryngologists, Dr. Myers forged global partnerships and expanded education opportunities on behalf of the AAO-HNSF. His endless contributions to the specialty have positively impacted the quality of patient care on nearly every continent. The Eugene N.
