November 21 Is the Great American Smokeout

Help your patients to take the first step in their smoke-free journey with dedicated resources.

Great American SmokeoutAbout 34 million American adults still smoke cigarettes, and smoking remains the single largest preventable cause of death and illness in the world, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). Smoking causes an estimated 480,000 deaths every year, or about 1 in 5 deaths.1

The AAO-HNS has been a longtime member of the Tobacco Control Partners Coalition and ardent supporter of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. We stand with these organizations and campaigns in support of bold action that will help protect children from tobacco addiction, advance health equity, and save lives.

The third Thursday in November is dedicated each year to helping individuals start their own smoke-free journey. You can find resources to help patients and loved ones take this crucial step toward reducing their cancer risk and a healthier future through the Great American Smokeout event as well as by sharing resources from ENThealth.org.

ENThealth.org is the Academy’s dedicated website for patients. The content is developed from a team of AAO-HNS members, and information is delivered via peer-reviewed articles, interactive features, and video content featuring physicians.
