International Honorary Fellow Award Presented at 2024 Annual Meeting

Spanning nearly 40 years, Dr. Raine’s humanitarian efforts, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, inspire global otolaryngology efforts.

Raine, MBE, FRCS, with the International Honorary Fellow Award during our 2024 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO in Miami Beach, Florida,” said Douglas D. Backous, MD, AAO-HNS/F Immediate Past-President. “This award is a testament to Dr. Raine’s steadfast commitment to advancing the art, science, and ethical practice of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Through his work in Bradford, U.K., and missionary efforts in Malawi, he has elevated the standard of patient care in otology while influencing his colleagues and practitioners worldwide. We thank Dr. Raine for his service, passion, and inspiration.”

A consultant at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Dr. Raine is recognized for his pioneering work in British otology, including the creation of the Yorkshire Auditory Implant Centre. He has held various government advisory roles, including advising on the development of specialized ear services, providing clinical expertise to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence on cochlear implants, and working with the Department of Work and Pensions. He also served on the Hearing Aid Council.

In 2015, Dr. Raine was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to charity and the National Health Service. In addition, he was a founding member of several prestigious organizations, including the British Society of Otology, the British Cochlear Implant Group, and the British Association of Pediatric Otolaryngology. He is a former board member of the European Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology and a past president of the Section of Otology at the Royal Society of Medicine.
