You Are Never Alone with the Academy
Set your New Year’s resolutions to engage in the Academy’s community calendar and use programs that support your everyday practice.
Do you ever feel like Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) from the movie, Home Alone? As you journey through medical school and residency, you can’t wait for that day when you step into the role as a practicing otolaryngologist with your own patients. But then, somehow, when that day finally comes, the independence you couldn’t wait for feels just a bit lonelier than you expected?
Cue the Academy. The camaraderie and support that you had in medical school and residency can be found within your professional home and community of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).
The Academy is people. Yes, it is also an organization, bound by a mission and vision, but it is the people and sense of community that give the Academy life. The Academy’s over 13,000 members provide support, collaboration, innovation, and opportunity for both you, individually, and the specialty, collectively.
No matter your career stage or role, there’s a place for you. With over 65 committees, four member sections (Women in Otolaryngology, Young Physicians, Residents and Fellows-in-Training, and Private Practice), and dozens of programs to match your professional needs, you are sure to find your own corner of the Academy to call “home.”
The Academy unites members at all stages of their careers—from medical students and residents and fellows-in-training to early career, seasoned practitioners, and retirees.
How Can You Make the Most of Your Academy Community?

What you need today may change tomorrow and that is why the Academy covers the gamut of programs and services.
