Physicians Unite to Declare Independence from the SGR Formula
During the AAO-HNSF 2012 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO, the Academy debuted a petition titled the “Declaration of Independence from the SGR Formula,” calling for the repeal of the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. This innovative idea was shared with other national physician groups, and as a result, a collaborative grassroots effort spearheaded by the AAO-HNS emerged. The petition was signed by more than a thousand physicians from all 50 states and included the names of more than 500 AAO-HNS members. In November, the Declaration was delivered to Members of Congress on Capitol Hill for consideration during this year’s lame-duck session. A cover letter accompanied the petition explaining how physicians need stability in the Medicare system for their practices and their patients.
