2024 BOG Practitioner of Excellence Award
Michael T. Teixido, MD
ENT & Allergy of Delaware
With a special interest in medical and surgical conditions that affect hearing and balance, Dr. Teixido has sought to bring high-level otology patient care to his home state of Delaware, which has no medical school or training program. His diverse activities include advocating for statewide education reform to better serve children who are deaf or hard of hearing as well as introducing cochlear implant programs for both adults and children. In collaboration with the Delaware Biotechnology Institute, Dr. Teixido has created unique 3-D materials for teaching anatomy, surgery, and pathophysiology.
Dr. Teixido is also a leader in otolaryngology education in the areas of migraines and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). He has personally developed new and effective diagnostic and treatment maneuvers for BPPV that are now widely used, has produced online teaching materials for both patients and practitioners, and has been active in medical missions in the Caribbean, South America, and Asia. These activities and others are truly inspirational and are commensurate for the recognition of the BOG Practitioner of Excellence Award.

FSO-HNS is an organization whose interests include the promotion and advancement of the practice of otolaryngology in the state of Florida and providing education for the interchange of views concerning the specialty. FSFPRS is the official state organization representing facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons practicing in the state of Florida, whose members subscribe to a code of ethics that guides patient care. The organizations have partnered to combine their resources and focus, working with both private practice and academic otolaryngologists in the “Sunshine State.”
The FSO-HNS and FSFPRS advocate for reimbursement security with Medicare on issues such as allergen immunotherapy and have collaborated with national organizations such as The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy; American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
The FSO-HNS and FSFPRS also work with the Network of Florida Otolaryngologists and Network of Medical Audiology Professionals to coordinate and host the annual Florida Combined Otolaryngology Meeting (FCOM). The societies support the education of the next generation of otolaryngologists by encouraging them to submit and present poster presentations, attend sessions, and network with their colleagues and peers at FCOM.
The spirit of FCOM is founded on collaborative learning and multispecialty engagement.
