Calling YPS and OPPS Members: Apply to Serve on a Foundation Education Committee

Collaborate with colleagues from around the world to create education materials that have meaningful impact and significance for otolaryngologists, residents, medical students, and members of the healthcare team.

Meredith N. Merz Lind, MD, AAO-HNSF Coordinator of Education

Meredith N. Merz Lind, MDMeredith N. Merz Lind, MDApplications are now being accepted for all AAO-HNS/F committees, and I especially would like to encourage you to consider serving on one of the nine AAO-HNSF Education Committees. We are actively seeking the following:

  • Young Physician Section (YPS) members to bring your unique perspective, energy, and innate understanding of emerging technologies to the important work of our Education Committees.
  • Otolaryngology Private Practice Section (OPPS) members to share your valuable real-world clinical experience, practical insights, and understanding of contemporary practice challenges as we look to advance our educational offerings.

The nine AAO-HNSF Education Committees are charged with the mission-critical responsibility of creating and maintaining education products and content for Academy members. In addition to attending committee meetings held throughout the year, such as the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO and several virtual meetings, members of this committee will also actively participate in planning and creating new education activities throughout the year.

Here are just a few of the projects that the Education Committees are working on:

  • Creating and maintaining the Otolaryngology Core Curriculum (OCC) modules—a comprehensive and standardized otolaryngology curriculum that, in its first year, is being used by more than 90% of U.S. and Canadian trainees
  • Developing FLEX (Flexible Lifelong Education Experience)—a truly visionary and customizable experience that allows for deep dives on a spectrum of emerging topics in otolaryngology
  • Designing in-person and virtual simulation opportunities that enhance quality of care
  • Authoring articles for the “From the Education Committees” and “Pearls from Your Peers” Bulletin columns
  • Reviewing and updating the entire AAO-HNSF education catalogue

Outside of clinical care, working with the AAO-HNSF Education Committees has been one of the most meaningful professional experiences in which I have had the pleasure of participating. It has given me the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from around the world to create education materials that have meaningful impact and significance for otolaryngologists, residents, medical students, and members of the healthcare team.

The 2025 committee application process is now open and will close on January 5, 2026. Read more about service on all AAO-HNS/F committees. Please contact us with any questions you may have about committee service at committees@entnet.org.
