“The top benefit of the Global Grand Rounds series is that it offers accessible, high-quality education with presentations from leading experts in the field,” said Maria V. Suurna, MD, professor and director of sleep surgery at University of Miami Health System and AAO-HNSF Coordinator for International Affairs.
Participants attending the Advanced Techniques in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery webinar can expect to gain valuable insights into the latest advancements and techniques in endoscopic sinus surgery. Topics will include the Evolution of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Complex Frontal Sinus Surgery, and Extended Access in Endonasal Surgery. The event is presented in collaboration with the Pan American Association of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and is sponsored by Medtronic. And for the first time since the Global Grand Rounds series launched in 2021, this webinar will feature live dissection demonstrations.
“This event is an excellent opportunity for otolaryngologists to stay updated on the latest techniques and innovations in endoscopic sinus surgery,” said J. Pablo Stolovitzky, MD, of ENT of Georgia, liaison to AAO-HNSF Joint Meetings, past AAO-HNSF Coordinator for International Affairs (2017-2021), and past Board of Directors (BOD) liaison for the Pan-American Committee (2017-2021). Dr. Stolovitzky will moderate the webinar along with Jolie Crespo, MD, Clínica Crespo, Panama, bringing her expertise and training in sleep-disordered breathing and sleep surgery, and rhinology and skull base surgery, including endoscopic nose surgeries.
Joseph K. Han, MD, professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School, will co-lead the first-ever live dissection demonstrations at a Global Grand Rounds event. Dr. Han, who helped lead the use of biologics and nanobodies for use in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), stated, “We will have state-of-the-art technology as well as practical surgical techniques that can advance your surgical practice.”
Co-leading the demonstrations will be Corinna G. Levine, MD, MPH, University of Miami, recipient of several grants, including the Triological Society Career Development Award. She is active in addressing CRS health disparities and improving CRS outcomes through precision medicine.
Thanks to sponsorship from Medtronic, the inaugural live demonstrations of endoscopic procedures will feature endoscopic medial maxillectomy, endoscopic septoplasty, endoscopic dacrocystorhinostomy, endoscopic orbital decompression, endoscopic sphenopalatine ligation, and various advanced frontal sinus procedures.
Partnering with the Pan American Association of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery helps promote the exchange of global perspectives and diverse knowledge from otolaryngologists across the Americas, while enriching the learning experience for participants worldwide. “Overall, this collaboration advances the quality of education, sharing of knowledge, and improved patient care on a global scale,” said Jacqueline Alvarado, MD, president of the Pan American Association of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
The 2024 Global Grand Rounds Series drew a combined registration of more than 6,500 physicians from over 125 countries, including a large representation from low- and middle-income countries. Last year’s series included four webinars with presentations from 32 prominent global otolaryngology-head and neck surgery thought leaders.
In addition to Drs. Stolovitzky, Han, and Levine, the webinar features distinguished panelists from around the world, making it an invaluable learning opportunity:
Peter John Wormald, MD, FAHMS, FCS(SA), FRCS (Ed), MBChB, University of Adelaide, Australia, is renowned for his work in sinonasal disorders, functional endoscopic sinus surgery, and anterior skull-base surgery.
Valerie J. Lund, DBE, CBE, University College London, United Kingdom, developed the Lund-Mackay score for assessing rhinosinusitis. She is also co-chair of the European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps.
Rodolfo Nazar Saffie, MD, University of Chile Clinical Hospital, Chile, is a leader in rhinology known for his expertise in performing advanced surgical procedures. He is president of the upcoming the 39th Pan-American Congress of Otorhinolaryngology in Santiago, Chile.
Dr. Suurna recognized the importance of the Global Grand Rounds Series, stating, “This is a highly valuable platform for our global community that allows otolaryngologists from different regions and backgrounds to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. Most importantly, this initiative encourages collaboration and growth of our field globally.”
