The new Voices of Otolaryngology podcast series is here to bring you exciting conversations and varied perspectives from the individuals who comprise the depth and breadth of the specialty. Hosted by AAO-HNS/F EVP/CEO Rahul K. Shah, MD, MBA, this dynamic series takes a deep dive into the stories, goals, and innovations that are both impacting the current state of affairs in the house of medicine as well as shaping the future of the global otolaryngology community.
In this latest episode, Dr. Shah talks with Shreya Mandava, MD, PGY-1 resident at the University of Michigan, about how she has found a passion for advocacy in her journey to otolaryngology. Dr. Mandava is the AAO-HNS Section for Residents and Fellows-in-Training delegate to the American Medical Association House of Delegates.
“It’s never too early or late to get involved. I did not know about organized medicine—the AMA, the Academy—starting medical school, but it has played such an important role in my training. I would encourage all of you: if you have any sort of opinion, get engaged and make your voice heard. We have a duty as trainees and physicians to make sure that we’re advocating not just for ourselves but our whole field and our patients.”
