Are You Eligible for a Discount or Waiver to Publish Open Access?
Check whether your country or institution has a standing agreement to cover article processing charge (APC) for publishing open-access in the OTO Journals.
The American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) publishes two peer-reviewed journals: its flagship journal, Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and OTO Open, a “gold” open-access journal, meaning all articles in the latter are immediately freely available to read, download, and share. Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery offers authors an open-access option called OnlineOpen to have their articles immediately freely available to everyone, including those who don’t subscribe.
To cover the costs associated with publishing, authors pay an article publication charge (APC) to publish open-access in most gold or hybrid journals. While funders are increasingly requiring that funded research be published open-access, APCs are not always covered or covered in full by research grants.
Members of the AAO-HNS are automatically eligible for a 20% discount on APCs for OTO Open and open-access articles in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. In addition, your institution may have an existing agreement with Wiley that provides a discount or waiver to offset the APC. Furthermore, Wiley, the publisher for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and OTO Open, offers waivers and discounts to authors based in low- and lower-middle-income countries and locations through a partnership with Research4Life. Note that country-based waivers and discounts only apply to authors wishing to publish in OTO Open. Wiley does not currently offer waivers or discounts for authors publishing open-access in hybrid journals.
APC charges and discounts are calculated according to the country and/or institution of the corresponding author.
