“Scrub In” to the Simulation Events at #OTOMTG25

Over two dozen new and returning simulation events offer an interactive, hands-on format to enhance your surgical skills during the 2025 Annual Meeting.

Aao2023 Sun ThumbnailDon’t forget to set aside plenty of time during this year’s AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO to participate in simulation events, which will include a full program of education sessions from Saturday, October 11, through Monday, October 13, as well as the ever-popular SIM Tank competition, and a pre-conference workshop on managing OTO emergencies in practice (separate registration required).

Simulation Showcase and SIM Tank

Aao 0376Sponsored by the AAO-HNSF Simulation Education Committee, the Simulation Showcase provides an opportunity for simulation scholars to demonstrate their innovative otolaryngology simulators, projects, and curriculum. The top three most innovative simulation projects will present to a panel of expert judges while competing for the top prize during the SIM Tank. Projects are judged on innovation, creativity, scalability throughout the specialty, and advancement of training and practice in the field.

The Simulation Showcase and SIM Tank will both be held from 5:00 to 6:00 pm (ET) Sunday, October 12.

Worst-Case Scenarios: Managing OTO Emergencies in Practice
12:00 – 5:00 pm (ET), Friday, October 10, 2025

Aao2023 Sun 138This is a five-hour course geared toward practicing otolaryngologists that simulates six low-frequency, high-stakes emergency situations you may not encounter often in your daily routine. The registration fee includes the workshop offering CME/MOC credit, transportation, and lunch. This year, the workshop will be held at the Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall on the Indiana University School of Medicine campus. Space is again limited to 40 participants, so register early to reserve your spot!

Simulation Center

The Simulation Center returns with an expanded offering of simulation education sessions and hands-on surgical skills training. Additional highlights of this year’s simulation sessions include opportunities to level up your surgical techniques through immersive ear reconstruction workshops, precision nasal osteotomy on innovative 3D-printed models, advanced maxillofacial reconstruction training with live demonstrations, and much more. Develop your professional skills with powerful coaching strategies and realistic emergency airway management scenarios. Participants can also explore highly specialized sessions including sleep medicine innovations and advanced data analysis techniques.

Are you a medical student considering a career in the specialty? Be sure to check out the highly popular returning session, “Emergency Airway Management for Medical Students,” led by a panel of world-class instructors. During the hour-long, hands-on session, you will rotate through three airway stations and perform various simulated procedures, including learning to use a flexible laryngoscope and identify relevant anatomy, perform an emergency cricothyroidotomy and tracheotomy, manage tracheostomy tubes, and much more!

These exciting sessions represent just a sampling of the comprehensive learning opportunities available throughout the program! To learn more, visit the full Education Program and select “Simulation Education” to view session times, speakers, summaries of each session’s content and learning objectives, and CME/MOC credit.
