The Department of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief, Division of Otolaryngology. This is a distinctive leadership opportunity for a nationally respected otolaryngologist to advance a growing academic division within one of the most innovative and intellectually vibrant institutions in the country.
Appointed by and reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery, the Chief serves as the senior academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the Division of Otolaryngology. The successful candidate will bring a proven record of clinical excellence, scholarly achievement, and educational leadership, along with the vision and emotional intelligence required to lead in a complex academic health system.

Under the leadership of Benjamin Judson, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery, the department is entering a renewed period of academic, clinical, and organizational growth. Expanding the clinical footprint, research enterprise, and national visibility of the Division of Otolaryngology is a departmental priority.
The Chief will play a central role in shaping divisional strategy, strengthening interdisciplinary partnerships, and fostering an accountable and inclusive culture that supports faculty success across Yale’s tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education.
Qualifications
- Hold a medical degree (MD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MD/PhD, or equivalent)
- Board-certified in Otolaryngology
- Be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Connecticut
- Qualify for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at Yale University School of Medicine
- Demonstrate a strong record of leadership in clinical care, research, and education
- Exhibit excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through influence
