Announcing the International Advisory Board (IAB) Chair-elect: Sheng-Po Hao, MD

Dr. Hao is professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology of Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital and program director of Otolaryngology in Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan. He is a specialist in both head and neck surgery and skull base surgery. 

Dr. Hao is an internationally recognized authority and has published hundreds of articles and book chapters on the surgical aspect as well as ongoing research in oral cancer. He was the AAO-HNSF 2014 Eugene N. Myers, MD International Lecture on Head and Neck Cancer and the recipient of the 2017 Nikhil J. Bhatt, MD International Public Service Award. In 2013, he gave the keynote lecture at the 20th World Congress of the International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies in Seoul.

Dr. Hao is the founding president of Taiwan Head and Neck Society and Taiwan Oral Cancer Prevention and Therapy Association and the past president of Taiwan Skull Base Society. He is also the founding president and current secretary general of the Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology. 

Dr. Hao is a reviewer for more than 30 scientific journals and serves on the Editorial Boards of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and Laryngoscope. He has delivered instruction courses and surgical workshops and teaches all over the world. He has not only imparted his knowledge and expertise through teaching medical students and residents in Taiwan, but has also trained international fellows from China, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Spain, and the Philippines.

Dr. Hao serves on the International Federation of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (IFHNOS) Head and Neck Committee and Nominating Committee. He is also the Taiwan representative in IFHNOS, and in 2018 was recognized by IFHNOS as one of 16 “Master of Head & Neck Surgery.”

Dr. Hao graduated from Taipei Medical University and completed his residency at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. He returned to Taiwan, where he has held numerous positions in medical and academic institutions. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Yale University, and Seoul National University.

Dr. Hao’s term as Chair-elect will start at the conclusion of the AAO-HNSF 2021 Annual Meeting & OTO Experience, October 3-6 in Los Angeles, California, when current Chair-elect Muaaz Tarabichi, MD, assumes the IAB Chair position.
